Space can
be created in a dwelling using cavities and voids. The effective manipulation of light via the
arrangement of cavities and voids can create the illusion of space. The unusual
L-shaped window allows light to enter the space in an unusual way and together
with the mirror wall and the simplicity of the furniture forms create shadows
and light creating voids, thus the illusion of space. These voids are further accentuated by the
black wall framing the window which extends the shadow cast by the window. The
final model successfully achieved this illusion of space, however, the use of
lighter colours on the three surrounding walls could have intensified the
effect of light on the space.
